Island Cruisers Inc sits on NC-12 in Salvo, part of the run of villages — Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo — that make up the northern end of Hatteras Island beyond the Marc Basnight Bridge. It's a transportation and rental business, the kind of local operation visitors turn to for an easier way to get around the villages and nearby beach accesses without moving a full-size vehicle for every short trip. That matters more here than in a lot of places: NC-12 is the single road connecting these villages to each other and to the rest of the Outer Banks, and it runs through a narrower, more exposed stretch of island than the beaches farther north.

Hours run close to daily, with the shop opening at 8 a.m. on Sundays and Mondays, 10 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, and closing early at 4 p.m. on Saturdays (otherwise open until 7 p.m.). Because conditions on NC-12 can shift quickly with weather — hurricane season runs June through November, with the real risk window in August through October — it's worth calling ahead or checking the website before building a trip around it, especially outside the Memorial Day-to-Labor Day peak season.

We stayed at Camp Hatteras RV Resort and Campground and rented a golf cart for the week from Island Cruisers! I called ahead of time and asked some questions that they were great to answer! They were always quick to respond via email and very nice! They were there quickly after we checked in with the golf cart fully charged and ready to go! We had no issues with the golf cart throughout the week. I was a little disappointed with the back seat cover being attached with staples that were visible and rusted but it never caused an issue for us (nothing got snagged or poked anyone). Their customer service, having no issues mechanically, and the ease of rental process still makes for a 5 star revue! The check out/pick up information was clearly stated and easy to understand. We will rent again from Island Cruisers!

Great company! We rented a G-wagon for our week long stay at the beach. It was great fun having a vehicle to enjoy the sights of the area. Great customer service, very friendly! Will definitely use again when visiting the Outer Banks

We had an unfortunate car issue on the second day of our vacation. Called Island Cruisers hoping they had a GEM car we could drive around until our vehicle was fixed. Luckily they did and delivered it with 2 hours. They were a pleasure to deal with and gave me a quick tutorial and our vacation was saved! It was a lot of fun driving around and we will be using them again next year!!

Very good communication and customer service. My only concern is with the golf cart was the fact that the windshield was very difficult to see through. Yes the upper half folds down, but the winds in that area it's really needed to shield you from the wind. I've golfed at many local golf courses and have never seen the same problem with golf courses carts exposed to the same type atmospheric conditions. But again, great customer service, they make all the paperwork simple to sign. I do highly recommend!

We have rented from Island Cruisers for 3 years now! Such a breeze, they drop our cart off to our site at Camp Hatteras and pick it up on departure day. The process could NOT be any easier! The pricing is wonderful and reasonable, I always say they are the hardest working people on the island, running from dawn to dusk 7 days a week. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend!
