B & R Rent-A-Car operates out of a straightforward storefront on US-64 in Manteo, on Roanoke Island. This is the Outer Banks' historic and cultural anchor, reached from the beach towns by crossing the Washington Baum Bridge from Whalebone Junction — a different character entirely from the barrier-island strip. For anyone staying on the island rather than out at the beach, or whose own vehicle needs a backup while exploring Fort Raleigh, downtown Manteo's waterfront around Shallowbag Bay, or the rest of the Outer Banks, having a rental counter based right on Roanoke Island saves the drive back across the bridge just to pick up a car.

The business keeps standard weekday hours — Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. — and is closed Saturday and Sunday, so it's worth planning around if a pickup or return falls on a weekend. Doc was a pleasure to work with. He found the perfect vehicle for us on short notice. Our online "reservation "with another car rental company resulted in no being vehicle available for us for days . We were so glad to find Doc. He arranged for a seamless and enjoyable experience while obtaining the van. He even picked the van up when we were done with with rental and off to the airport. Doc was incredible! Our family was visiting Nags Head for a summer beach trip and I needed assistance transporting some equipment my elderly mother needed for the beach. Had a great experience renting with B&R after getting burned by the only chain rental car company on the Outer Banks. B&R was quick to respond to my inquiry about whether they had any cars and were reasonably priced. They could have price gouged me, as I was desperate. They were incredibly nice and helpful when I picked up the car, and they didn’t try to upsell me insurance or anything else. The charge to my credit card was just what we had discussed with no unpleasant surprises. Highly recommend B&R! Wonderful Customer Service!! Thank you B&R!!

Rented a cool green Focus this last week to use in Cape Hatteras. Very professional, and easy from pick up to drop off. We needed to find something that was opened to pickup on Saturday, as the Enterprise wasn't open. Doc was awesome answered all questions and made this so easy. Thank you again. Me and my ladies also loved the fun Color!!

Was on vacation in N C needed a car.Called B&R needed a six passenger vehicle for a week. My call was returned within thirty minutes. They delivered the vehicle and came to pick up as well.The company was perfect in all ways including price.If I’m ever back in that area in need of a rental I would go no where else! B&R BEST IN AREA!!!!
