It's a straightforward, no-frills option in a town built around exactly that kind of convenience: close enough to walk to the water, close enough to drive to everything else.
Kill Devil Hills is the historical anchor of the northern Outer Banks — Wright Brothers National Memorial, marking the site of the first powered flight in 1903, sits just inland, and the towering dunes of Jockey's Ridge State Park in neighboring Nags Head are a short drive south. The front desk keeps long daily hours, open from mid-morning into the evening (with later Friday and Saturday closing), which is handy for guests arriving after a full beach day or coming in late from a flight into Norfolk or drives down from Virginia.
As with most of this stretch of Beach Road, expect peak crowds and peak rates Memorial Day through Labor Day, with the shoulder months of April, May, September, and October offering quieter streets and milder weather — genuinely one of the better times to visit this part of the Outer Banks. Hurricane season runs June through November, with August through October carrying the highest storm risk, so it's worth keeping an eye on the forecast if booking during that window.

We decided to extend our time in the OBX after our weekly rental ended, and we’re so glad we found this place! I spoke with Linda, and she was incredibly helpful in making everything easy. My family absolutely loved our stay. The room was spotless, the staff was friendly and exceptional, and you simply can’t beat the oceanfront views. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and will definitely be staying here again on future trips to the Outer Banks!

We stayed there for five days over the Independence Day holiday and it couldn’t have been better! House keeping was awesome and super friendly, Linda was very warm and inviting, location is great especially if you like kill devil grill! Overall great place we have rebooked for later this month and next year again!

What an incredible experience with Outer Banks Motor Lodge. We love supporting Mom and Pop businesses and this place does not disappoint. From the manager to housekeeping staff, we were always greeted with a smile and welcoming attitude. We especially loved the old timey feel of the simplicity of this motel, truly unique! Thank you Linda, for all the details to making our trip unforgettable.

This is great for a couples getaway weekend. I consider it enough to have somewhere to sleep / shower. I feel they need a designated smoking area so you don’t have to walk past every guest smoking outside their room. Location was great to walk right out to the beach / all the restaurants to eat at. I love Millers across the street for breakfast!

Such nice people running the place and a great location, right on the beach. The rooms have little kitchenettes and a fridge, comfortable beds and a quick walk (1 min) to the beach. In the very center of town, close to everything. We appreciated all their recommendations on places to eat and visit. We'll be back!
