Island Guesthouse & Motel sits on US-64 in Manteo, on Roanoke Island, a short drive from the historic sites that anchor this end of the Outer Banks. It's a straightforward, motel-style stay rather than a resort property, with a front desk staffed from 8am to 9pm daily.

The location puts you close to Fort Raleigh National Historic Site and Elizabethan Gardens on the island's north end, where the story of the 1580s Roanoke Colony -- still an unresolved piece of American history -- plays out across the earthen fort reconstruction, visitor center, and surrounding grounds. Head the other direction and you're across the water in downtown Manteo, where Roanoke Island Festival Park and the walkable waterfront around Shallowbag Bay offer a different kind of afternoon: a recreated 16th-century ship, a museum, and shops and restaurants within walking distance of the water.

We’re driving away from the Island Guesthouse & Motel this morning and we can’t wait to come back as soon as we can. Of course Manteo, NC was really fun, but the motel really added to our experience. Part owner and general manager, Miss Tara, was so helpful and personable. When we checked in we asked for her recommendations as a local for where to go in the area. Tara was ready with lists and her own personal favorite beaches. As for our room, it was cleaned so quickly and neatly each morning. If we went out for an hour for breakfast we would come back to a very tidy room. I was impressed with the efficiency. Thank you so much again for our great experience! See you soon!

À last minute reservation including our dog was booked quickly for us at Island Guest House and Motel. Our room was clean, À/C was cranking and room service with fresh towels every day. In addition, the motel supplied small bags of ice, a coffee kiosk and a fire pit area for relaxing after a long day at the beach. The price was very affordable as most hotels in the area charge much more with less amenities. Our big Rottweiler Lucy enjoyed the vacation as much as we did. We definitely recommend Island Guest House and Motel. They go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable.

Lovely guesthouse! I decided to switch things up a bit by staying in Manteo for my beach vacation and I'm so glad that I did. The location was pretty good - close to ice cream, shops, and restaurants downtown, and a short less than 10 minute drive to Nags Head beaches. The room itself was spacious and comfortable and I appreciated the small bags of ice and coffee downstairs. The manager, Tara, greeted me every morning with recommendations and was lovely to chat with. Looking forward to my return visit!

The place is nice and clean the service was great. Clean sheets. Good prices. I only had two suggestions or issues. The first being is if you have about an average height sedan or lower you will smash the front of your bumper into the ramp to the parking lot even if crawling up slowly. If you read this and go there the only way around this was hitting the ramp up as much to the right as I could (it’s marginally lower) with one wheel hitting before the other cocked at an angle to lift the bumper up a little as slow as you can possibly go (sometimes hard with traffic). The other issue is if you’re with a significant other, our room at least in the main house, the boxsprings are very squeaky. Don’t expect any “spicey” time without a lot of noise. Also the doors in the main house don’t have any seal around them for noise or light (they might also be hollow doors but I can’t recall). Which also can be related to the previous point of letting noise in and out pretty easily. Other than that it was a neat place. Definitely a good location as it’s near a lot and only like 9 minutes away from the nearest local beach and pier (which has EV chargers).

We have been staying here for over a year while cleaning out my parents house and getting ready to sell. Rooms are awesome we always have one room we request to stay in and Tara the manager makes it happen. Entire staff is so friendly and accommodating. Love it here have been coming to Manteo for 25 years wonderful place to visit. Great restaurants, shopping, and happy hour places. Especially Nu Vine Wine shop. Great service, wonderful atmosphere, and staff. Stay here and enjoy your stay in Manteo.
