I rarely leave negative reviews, but unfortunately this hotel was a huge disappointment. The lobby is beautiful and recently renovated, but the room we were given was nothing like the photos online, which I found very misleading. As soon as we walked in, there was a strong mold and mildew smell. The room was in poor condition, with damaged furniture, an old worn-out mirror, and an air conditioning unit that looked like it hadn't been updated in decades. I immediately went back to the front desk to cancel my reservation. Carlson was exceptional. He was professional, kind, and truly tried to help. Unfortunately, the younger employee working with him was rude and initially refused to cancel without charging me. Thankfully, Carlson contacted the manager, who approved a full refund for both nights. I sincerely appreciate how Carlson handled the situation.
Another disappointment was the pool, which had been closed for over a week and was full of green water. For a beachfront hotel, that's simply unacceptable. I hope the hotel updates its guest rooms and uses photos that accurately represent the property. Based on my experience, I would not stay here again.
I arrived at Hotel Manteo to find that my intended room was not available at the 3pm check-in because it was still occupied for an additional night by the current guest. I was later (8pm) assigned Room 507 in Building 2, but when I entered the second-floor room, it had not been cleaned by housekeeping. Because the hotel was fully booked, I was moved next door to Room 506, which meant another arriving guest would likely be placed in the same situation I had just experienced.
I paid for a three-night stay, and the condition of the room was very poor, as shown in my photos. I did not make a complaint to the General Manager. I was just relieved at that point to have a room... any room. I was in the area for a wedding, and my schedule was busy. So I decided to leave this review so that future guests would know about my experience.
So the people running the place are really nice, however the place is really run down. The rooms smells like mildew or a basement. The water smells like sulfur water. The bathroom setup is really small hard to use with a family. But the pool and pool area are really nice. There was around four different buildings that had rooms. The front building had the nicer rooms, while we stayed in the other buildings that had run down rooms. The office and commen area are really nice. The restaurant, Firetender, which was connected to the hotel was really awesome. The restaurant had great people as well as being clean with no smell of mildew. The food was so good!!! Try the pizzas. So good.
Don't be fooled by the pictures. Not what they claim to be. More of run down Motel than a Hotel. The room was disgusting and my wife and daughter did not feel safe. There should have been crime scene tape around the furniture in the room it was so soiled, stained and disgusting. We had to leave and find other lodging. The gentleman at the desk said he understood and would give us our money back. That was a lie. They refuse to refund us. I'm shocked Wyndham would attach their name and reputation to this place.
For what we paid, kind of a letdown. Not the cleanest.
Smoke detector not installed! Just plastic base on the wall. The room had blinds but no additional curtain. Shower head had limescale built up over holes so the water pressure was awful and took forever to get hot. Shower also had holes worn into enamel of the tub which were rusty. The shower drain, sink drain, and mirror also had rust build up. Water from sink tasted so strongly of rust, we bought a gallon of water just so we didn’t have to taste it. The one metal sink was deep but not nearly wide enough - it was also not inside of bathroom, but attached to the “kitchenette.” Fitted sheet on both beds was just a regular, thin sheet laid over mattress and somewhat tucked in. No closet or even hook or coatrack to hang anything, I hung my dress on the shower rod… I guess we just had higher expectations for how much we paid and that it is supposedly a hotel and not motel. Finally, the pool wasn’t open our whole stay.
