My girlfriends and I stayed here over the weekend and really had a great experience. The rooms smelled and looked clean, the staff was so pleasant and attentive. I've had better hotel breakfasts but there wasn't anything terrible about it. I would love to see more Gluten Free options in hotels, but that is a personal opinion. Great restaurants all within walking distance, the beach was a tiny walk but nothing unbearable. Would definitely stay here again!
I would like to shoutout Emily from the front desk, she was so sweet and always had a pleasant attitude when we needed anything.
We spent one night of our honeymoon here and had a wonderful stay! The place was spotless and so comfortable. The staff members were incredibly friendly and accommodating from the moment we arrived. It’s also in the perfect spot close to the beach, shopping, and restaurants. We will definitely be back!
Breakfast (1-Star) is sub-standard from experience at other Holiday Inn Express stays, lacks overall breakfast area quality control, maintenance and inventory control.
1. Pancake machine inoperable, no alternative for pancakes (expectation when staying at Holiday Inn Express), particularly for children breakfast options.
2. No yogurts (another expected option).
3. Sausage and pre-made omelets were cold/lukewarm at best.
Separately, there were strands of hair in the bathtub; appeared was not cleaned/sanitized from previous occupants (health/safety).
Hallway noise is very loud, but understand likely out of facility control.
Room service. Towels replaced, 1 of 2 trash cans cleaned out, bed not re-made. This may be policy, i.e. light daily room type service - not a showstopper (just observation) and potential expectation for future clients.
Check in personnel were kind and proficient. Overall, minus bath/shower, rooms were updated and appeared cleaned.
Location is good, short walk to the beach.
My stay at Holiday Inn Express Kitty Hawk was exactly what a spontaneous “let’s get out of the house” trip needed.
The hotel is a bit dated, but honestly, I’ll take clean over trendy any day and this place was very clean. That alone earns points. The staff were genuinely kind and welcoming. One woman at the front desk had us laughing like we’d known her for years, and I wish I could remember her name because she deserves a shoutout.
The room was solid. No mystery smells, which is always a win. The AC had two personalities, arctic tundra or tropical vacation, with no real middle ground, but it got the job done. The beds were soft enough that I actually slept through the night, which is rare for me in hotels.
Breakfast was… present. It’ll get you started, but I’d skip the eggs unless you’re feeling adventurous. They had a strong “just add water and hope for the best” energy.
The location is a quiet win. You can walk to a few decent restaurants, which makes life easier when you’re trying to stay in vacation mode and not think too hard.
Overall, I genuinely enjoyed my stay and would absolutely come back. It’s not fancy, but it’s clean, comfortable, and staffed by people who make you feel welcome and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
Chose this Holiday Inn Express specifically for the EV charging, but it was a total disaster. Gas cars were parked in the designated EV spots, and the front desk had no clue how the chargers worked. They handed me an outdated piece of paper with a "private access code" that just put my account into a permanent "status pending." I ended up having to pay out of pocket to charge.
Check-in was just as frustrating. The system had the wrong first name on my reservation, despite the reservation number, last name, phone, and credit card all perfectly matching my confirmation email. Instead of handling the glitch, the front desk told me to call IHG corporate to sort it out myself. Unacceptable customer service for a major chain.
To top it off, the room carpet had weird yellow stains and random wet spots throughout. I'm hoping it was just ocean water since it's near the beach, but it was gross either way. Definitely wouldn't stay here again.
