I can’t say enough wonderful things about the Burrus House. We have stayed at several places in Manteo, and the Burrus House is, by far, the very best.
From the moment you arrive, you’re greeted by an incredibly friendly and welcoming staff who truly make you feel at home. The rooms are absolutely beautiful. Having stayed in more than one room, and having seen the others, I can honestly say that each one has its own unique charm and character. Every room is impeccably clean, tastefully furnished, and thoughtfully equipped with just about everything you could need for a comfortable stay.
The little extras make the experience even more special. Fresh cookies are available throughout the day, and in the late afternoon they offer a delightful wine and cheese reception. Each morning, a light breakfast is served with a wonderful variety of options to choose from.
The Burrus House has become our favorite place to stay in North Carolina, and it will be our first choice every time we visit the Outer Banks. Thank you to the amazing staff for making every stay such a memorable and enjoyable experience. We can’t wait to return!
Our stay at the Burrus House Inn was absolutely exceptional. We stayed in the Mary Carolyn suite in the Main Inn, and it was even more beautiful in person than in the photos. The design has that perfect modern, upscale coastal feel that’s difficult to get right, but Burrus House absolutely nailed it. The suite was elegant, relaxing, and incredibly comfortable.

One of our favorite features was the two decks—especially the private side deck overlooking Roanoke Sound. We spent time there every day watching both the sunrise and sunset, and the views were spectacular. It was peaceful, scenic, and truly unforgettable.

What made our visit even more special was Donnamae, the interim innkeeper. She was amazing—friendly, professional, thoughtful, and genuinely passionate about creating a memorable experience for guests. She arranged a bottle of sparkling grape juice and fresh flowers for a special occasion and surprised us by placing them in the room while we were out, which was such a thoughtful touch.

Her recommendations were also outstanding. We loved every restaurant she suggested, including Olives and Blue Water Grill for lunch, and Salt & Cypress and 1587 for dinner. She even recommended a beautiful local beach that was scenic, quiet, and uncrowded—exactly what we were looking for.

It’s rare to find a place where both the property and the hospitality exceed expectations, but Burrus House Inn did exactly that. We left with incredible memories and can’t wait to return.
My bride and I had our anniversary and she suggested a trip on a whim. I chose the destination and she chose the place we stayed. I hate to say how awesome this place is because we don’t think we will ever stay anywhere else on the OBX, and I selfishly want a room to always be available to us. The staff are absolutely wonderful. We added nite to our stay and had to move from the big room; but it was seamless and the second room was equally charming. This lodging made our anniversary and celebration of our lives together absolutely top shelf. Make sure you hit Vicki B’s and Basnight’s for eats. Thank you so much Vicki and DonnaMay for a fantastic experience! PS as a person with Crohn’s I got quite the kick out of the bathroom amenities. 😉
The room was immaculate with a great layout. The bed was very comfortable. The staff was excellent and very attentive with great recommendations for activities and dining. The views of the Roanoke Sound were beautiful. Loved the bike rides to downtown Manteo. Thank you Burrus House for a perfect getaway! Would highly recommend!
We had a wonderful experience. Our room was large and comfortable. There was a beautiful view of the water and we loved sitting out on the deck. The staff were very pleasant and provided us with information on local dining and attractions. Great place to celebrate our anniversary.
