Ocracoke village's brewery and bar, named for the year Blackbeard died just offshore
1718 Brewing Ocracoke sits along Irvin Garrish Highway in Ocracoke village, its name a nod to 1718 — the year Blackbeard was killed in the naval battle just offshore in Ocracoke Inlet. It's a bar-first spot with food on the menu too, open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. — good hours for an after-ferry drink or a late dinner once the day-trip crowd has cleared out.
Ocracoke has no bridge or road connection to the mainland — you get here by the free NC ferry from Hatteras (about an hour), longer toll ferries from Cedar Island or Swan Quarter, or a small plane to the island airstrip. 1718 Brewing sits in the village proper, an easy walk from Silver Lake Harbor. We had a fun time here. Very friendly staff at brewery and food window. You order at the window and they give you a pager to let you know when your food is ready for pick up. Great outdoor seating options. We had a flight and lunch. The beer was tasty and the food was delicious. Great atmosphere.

Great beer selection. Grilled fish and fried shrimp were delicious and the French fries were great. Pretzel is huge and the beer cheese and spicy honey mustard were both delicious. We split the plate after sharing the pretzel and we were stuffed.

Nice place to hang out with ample, shaded, outdoor seating and a few tables inside. We had a few dishes--fish & chips, beef sliders, chicken tenders, fried pickles, and calamari. The fish itself was excellent, but I expected more of the beer batter at a brewery. The batter was very (I mean, VERY bland). I ended up eating the fish and leaving the breading behind. My kids said the sliders were great and the fries also passed muster. Husband liked the calamari and I liked the coleslaw. The pickles are fine? I will add that I could buy a gallon of the cocktail sauce to take home with me, and the tartar-esque sauce was also very tasty! Ironically, we only had the blackberry cider today (and it was very refreshing) so I can't really speak to the Brews! Sad, I know, but it was so stinking hot today that I just wasn't feeling beer.

The food was good. The beer was good with lots of different options. The fig was my favorite but definitely too sweet to drink more than one or two. They have lots of big long tables for groups. It was pretty warm inside and I wish it were cooler and more of a respite from the heat.

Rhinestone burger was pretty good. Cheese Burger with a hearty layer of tasty pulled pork (not overwhelmingly soaked in vinegar like most NC BBQ is), crunchy bacon slices, lettuce and tomato and other fixings I can't remember (maybe a bbq sauce?!). I'd probably order it again. Side for fries were okay. I don't drink beer or alcohol for that matter so the atmosphere wasn't my style but if that's your thing, it'd probably be worth it and I'm sure would be an enjoyable time. They had open mic but unfortunately we couldn't stay.
